Do you want to achieve the healthiest, shiniest, and most easily manageable hair? If so, then it’s time to develop a custom-tailored hair care regimen that you can follow daily to see results. After all, while your hair’s condition is about 50% influenced by genetic factors, that other 50% is all about how you care for your hair! Not to mention, taking time for a daily hair-care regimen is a great way to enjoy some much-needed “me” time and exercise self-care.
In the Shower
If you shower in the morning, then your hair-care routine starts just before you get into the shower. If you slept on your hair, now is a good time to gently comb it out (from the ends to the roots) using a wide-tooth comb. Once you get in the shower, using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type is a must! More than likely, your hair will fall into one or more of the following common hair types:
- fine or thin
No matter what your hair type may be, choose a shampoo and conditioner solution that suits it. For example, if you’ve recently colored your hair, you may want to opt for a color-defense shampoo.
Once you’re out of the shower, it’s time to carefully comb through your hair again using a wide-tooth comb. Work slowly from the ends of your hair up to the roots to avoid breakage and reduce tangling. It’s especially important to be careful brushing through your hair while it’s wet, as this is when it’s the most prone to breakage and damage.
At this point, if you have naturally dry or damaged hair, this is also a good time to add a leave-in conditioning treatment. If you plan on using any styling tools, such as a blow dryer or curling iron, be sure to use a heat-protecting spray, serum, or cream (especially on the ends) before you begin applying heat.
Throughout the Day
Even after your style is set for the day, your hair-care regimen shouldn’t end. Throughout the day, you can help nourish your hair and improve its health by making sure you’re drinking plenty of water. This will help keep your hair hydrated. Also, to promote healthy hair growth, be sure to get your recommended daily doses of vitamins and other nutrients. When you eat and drink healthy, it shows not only in your skin, but in your hair as well.
Before you head to bed for the night, finish off your daily hair-care regimen by taking the time to carefully comb any tangles out of your hair before you lie down. Pulling your hair into a braid or ponytail before bed is also a great way to protect it against breakage while you sleep (especially if you do a lot of tossing and turning). Furthermore, sleeping on a silk pillowcase can help to reduce breakage and help you wake up with smoother and softer hair!
